About Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Aged Whiskey
When the truth is more powerful than the legend.
Uncle Nearest is a Tennessee whiskey created to honor an extraordinarily influential distiller, whose name and role in changing the course of spirits history was, until recently, virtually unknown.
Nathan "Nearest" Green was the first Black master distiller on record in the country. He also happened to be the man who taught a teenage Jack Daniels the whiskey distilling trade. Only in the last decade has his story been brought back out into the light, and has he been given his rightful place in the whiskey world.
The Uncle Nearest line of whiskeys was created to pay tribute to this all-but forgotten distiller, and to do justice to his legacy by crafting a truly premium Tennessee Whiskey that stands among the best.
And this effort paid off, as can be attested by Uncle Nearest's bevy of awards. In fact, it was the most-awarded American Whiskey or Bourbon of 2019 & 2020.

Tasting Notes
Layers and layers of aroma and taste. A sweet fruity vanilla aroma has hints of banana lingering just beneath the surface. The palate is incredibly smooth with caramel, apple and hay notes that leave room to introduce a smoky oak and hint of pepper flavor.

Production NotesAs the Uncle Nearest distillery is being constructed, the whiskey is currently produced and processed off-site. However, it's produced according to a proprietary method developed by Uncle Nearest's Director of Whiskey Operations, Sherrie Moore. She was previously at Jack Daniels for 31 years.
The whiskey utilizes corn malt, as part of an authentic 19th century recipe that hasn't been used since 1912. It is brewed and fermented over the course of six days, as you would a bourbon. After fermentation, the whiskey goes through a triple charcoal mellowing system, as part of the Lincoln County Process, which is what makes Tennessee Whiskey distinct from bourbon.
Finally, it's put into charred #4 barrels at 100 proof where it's aged to perfection.
